Ministry National Development Planning / Bappenas Jobs: Social Media and Public Campaign SDGs Consultant
The Ministry of National Development Planning of Indonesia, known as Bappenas, is the central government institution responsible for preparing and coordinating national development strategies. It plays a vital role in formulating the National Medium-Term Development Plan and the National Long-Term Development Plan, which serve as guidelines for Indonesia’s economic, social, and environmental progress. Bappenas ensures that development policies are integrated across ministries and regional governments, aligning national priorities with global frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals. The National Secretariat of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the Ministry of National Development Planning / Bappenas is an institution established to coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the implementation of the SDGs agenda in Indonesia. As part of the government’s commitment to achieving the targets set by the United Nations, the Secretariat plays a central role in ensuring that all stakeholders, including ministries, local governments, civil society, academia, and the private sector, are aligned in their efforts to promote sustainable development. Its presence reflects Indonesia’s determination to integrate the principles of sustainability into national development planning, ensuring that economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection are pursued in harmony.
The Secretariat functions as a hub for communication and collaboration, bridging the gap between policy makers and the wider community. It provides technical guidance, develops frameworks, and facilitates dialogue to ensure that the SDGs are not only understood but also implemented effectively across different levels of governance. By coordinating with ministries and agencies, the Secretariat ensures that national policies are consistent with the global SDGs framework, while also adapting them to Indonesia’s unique context. This includes addressing challenges such as poverty reduction, education, health, gender equality, climate change, and sustainable economic growth.
One of the key responsibilities of the Secretariat is to monitor progress and report on Indonesia’s achievements in relation to the SDGs. This involves collecting data, analyzing indicators, and preparing reports that highlight both successes and areas requiring improvement. Transparency and accountability are emphasized, as the Secretariat seeks to build trust among stakeholders and demonstrate Indonesia’s commitment to international standards. By publishing regular updates, the Secretariat also encourages public participation and awareness, ensuring that the SDGs are not seen as abstract goals but as tangible targets that affect everyday life.
In addition to its monitoring role, the Secretariat is actively involved in public campaigns and outreach. Recognizing that sustainable development requires collective action, it engages with communities, universities, and organizations to raise awareness about the importance of the SDGs. Through workshops, seminars, and digital campaigns, the Secretariat promotes literacy on sustainability issues and encourages citizens to take part in initiatives that support the national agenda. This approach ensures that the SDGs are not only government-driven but also community-owned, fostering a sense of responsibility among the public.
The Secretariat also plays a strategic role in building partnerships. Sustainable development cannot be achieved by the government alone, and therefore collaboration with the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and international partners is essential. By facilitating partnerships, the Secretariat helps mobilize resources, share knowledge, and create innovative solutions to complex challenges. These partnerships strengthen Indonesia’s capacity to achieve its targets and ensure that development is inclusive and resilient.
