In producing nickel in the Sorowako Block, we use pyro metallurgical technology (in melting the laterite nickel ore). The Company mines laterite nickel ore and processes it into the final product of nickel in matte.
The Company also continues its plan to developing integrated mining practices through the Indonesia Growth Project (IGP) in Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi, and in Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. The development project also targets existing operational locations, in East Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi.

Rehabilitation Engineer
- Work Location: Sorowako

Purpose of the Role
- Reporting to the Supervisor of Reclamation and Rehabilitation; the incumbent will be responsible for tree planting, tree maintenance, plant enrichment of post mining areas of PTVI Departments.
- Maintain areas safety performance by enforcing and following PTVI standards and environmental programs and standards so that there will be no fatalities or injuries within the responsibilities area.
- To lead ongoing PTVI reforestation program which includes tree planting pioneer species, tree maintenance, local species enrichment, cover crop and hydroseeding to reach the optimum result on quality, quantity and cost efficiency which comply with PTVI standard and Government regulations.
- Perform periodic inspection to ensure working plan and design are implemented well by contractors.
- Create scope of works, cost estimate, and evaluate actual cost performance for rehabilitation activities daily, weekly to monthly.
- Build, maintain and evaluate rehabilitation and reforestation databases both spatial and tabular.
- To maintain communication internal and external parties who include auditors, consultants, and authorities in regard with reclamation issues to ensure the recommendations are effectively communicated and implemented.
Accountabilities
- Comply with all PTVI and Geotechnical, Mines Department EHS procedures, standards and policies in Project area, execute the requirements as stipulated in the EHS policy, develop project scope and provide alternatives and recommendations to the project engineer, project manager and project sponsor as per agreement with project sponsor, produce tender scope of work, review technical bid and propose to project engineer and project manager for the best tender offer.
- Implement annual reforestation and re-vegetation work plan within group, preparing reforestation and re-vegetation contract, organizing tender and selection processes, manage re-vegetation and reforestation contractors and its monitoring to ensure the optimum result (safety, quality, quantity, time and cost effective), develop monitoring program, implementation and its report on overall rehabilitated area to determine the success rate (plant density, composition, coverage, diversity and growth performance), coordinate with nursery team to achieve good quality of seedlings, meet the number of species composition, as
- planned schedule and as cost planned.
- Developing penology, taxonomy, ecology, silviculture, physiology database of native species grown on PT. Vale Indonesia operation area, develop, implement and coordinating native species restoration program (native seed collection, extraction, propagation, and plantation), conduct continual study to enhance native species restoration on rehabilitated areas, continually proposing initiatives to improve re-vegetation performance using natural succession, sustainable and cost-effective principles.
- Manage work safety of overall re-vegetation workforce both contractor and crew follow company direction and targets, generate regular report on work achievement both safety and production (weekly, monthly and quarterly).
- Develop cost estimate in accordance with project scope of work and technical specifications, present a costing and economic benefits of newly planting, tree maintenance, enrichment and hydroseeding program.
- All documentation must be stored and preserved. Storage of documentation will be a combination of electronic and hardcopy files. Items include:
- Land Preparation handover Register
- Inspection Reports and Field Documentation
- Reforestation performance report
- Time Project Schedules
- Consumption Tracking (Bill of quantity)
- Costing Data
- Minutes of Meeting and Email Communication
- Any related documents with contract implementation, MOM, and etc.
- Coordinate with other parties to understand the future need and requirements of the areas in regards to tree planting, maintain an effective working relationship with other parties, work with external consultants as required.
- Assist and conduct best method of sampling or census to ensure contractor working results are acceptable.
- Maintain and improve section safety performance by enforcing and following company standards to avoid any fatalities or injuries by doing regular inspection newly planting, tree maintenance, and enrichment and hydroseeding, run off engineering control and design and present the result to the relevant parties.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture / Forestry discipline with minimum 4 years of experience.
- Certified for First Level Supervisor - Pengawas Operasional Pertama (POP) is mandatory.
- Good understanding in technical and analytical skills, also familiar with earthworks project.
- Experienced user for ArcGIS / QGIS, preferably to have GIS certification.
- Have valid driver license (SIM A).
- Prefer to have Drone Pilot License.
- Certified "Pelaksanaan Reklamasi" or "Perencanaan Reklamasi" is mandatory.
- Computer literate, experienced in Microsoft Office Application (Word, Excel, Power Point, Visual Basic).
- Preferably have experience or knowledge in the Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Management System (SMK3L).
