Bank Indonesia Jobs: 5 Positions

Bank Indonesia LogoA new chapter in the history of Bank Indonesia as an independent central bank was ushered in on 17th May 1999 when the Bank Indonesia Act (No. 23 of 1999) was enacted, which has subsequently been amended by Act No.6 of 2009. The BI Act confers status and position as an independent state institution, free from interference by the Government and/or other parties, unless explicitly stipulated in prevailing laws.
In accordance with the BI Act, Bank Indonesia is a fully autonomous state institution in terms of formulating and implementing its duties and responsibilities. Furthermore, Bank Indonesia has a duty to reject or disregard any attempt of intervention or interference by any party, while external parties have no grounds or justification to interfere with task implementation at Bank Indonesia.
The special status and position conferred are necessary to ensure Bank Indonesia can effectively and efficiently implement its role and function as the monetary authority.
Bank Indonesia’s status as a public legal entity or civil legal entity is explicitly stipulated in prevailing laws. As a public legal entity and in accordance with its duties and responsibilities, Bank Indonesia is authorised to issue legally binding regulations in the implementation of the law. As a civil legal entity, Bank Indonesia is authorised to represent itself within and outside a court of law.
Bank Indonesia is firmly committed to creating and maintaining rupiah stability through monetary and payment system management as well as financial system stability. Those three aspects are managed through policies instituted by Bank Indonesia and operationalised through various instruments optimised for the specific task at hand.
Bank Indonesia is mandated with achieving rupiah stability, maintaining the stability of the payment system as well as preserving financial system stability to support sustainable economic growth in accordance with Article 7 of the Bank Indonesia Act (Number 23) of 1999, as amended several times, most recently by Act Number 4 of 2023 concerning Financial Sector Development and Strengthening. Rupiah stability implies price stability of goods and services as well as rupiah exchange rate stability. In general, the performance of prices for goods and services is measured by low and stable inflation, while rupiah exchange rate stability is measured against other currencies.
Rupiah stability in terms of low and stable inflation as well as exchange rate stability is critical towards achieving sustainable economic growth. Moreover, rupiah exchange rate stability is necessary and an integral part of the efforts to support low and stable inflation.
In pursuit of its mandate, Bank Indonesia adopted the Inflation Targeting Framework (ITF) as its monetary policy framework on 1st July 2005. ITF is relevant for the mandate and institutional arrangements mandated in prevailing laws. Based on ITF, inflation is the overriding objective. Nonetheless, Bank Indonesia continues to refine its monetary policy framework based on the changing dynamics and economic challenges faced in order to strengthen its effectiveness.
Bank Indonesia provides diverse opportunities for young people with integrity in the country to help build Indonesia’s economy as Central Bankers. The opportunity to cooperate and collaborate with world-class professional talent is vast in terms of developing competencies and expanding networking. Bank Indonesia is a centre of learning for the young generation in order to create innovative ideas in the monetary sector, financial system stability, payment system and rupiah currency management, in its pursuit of becoming the best emerging market central bank.
