PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) DAOP 3 Jobs: 18 Positions

KAI LogoPT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), commonly known as KAI, is Indonesia’s state-owned railway company responsible for operating and managing railway transportation across the country. With a rich history dating back to the colonial era, KAI has played a crucial role in Indonesia’s transportation infrastructure, connecting cities and regions through an extensive railway network.
The origins of railway transportation in Indonesia date back to the Dutch colonial period when the first railway line was constructed in 1864 by the Nederlandsch-Indische Spoorweg Maatschappij (NIS). This initial railway connected Semarang to Vorstenlanden (Surakarta and Yogyakarta). Over time, the colonial government established Staatsspoorwegen (SS), a state-owned railway company, to expand the railway network. By the early 20th century, Indonesia had a well-developed railway system spanning Java, Sumatra, and parts of Sulawesi. Following Indonesia’s independence in 1945, the railway system was nationalized, and the government established Djawatan Kereta Api Republik Indonesia (DKARI) to manage railway operations. Over the years, the organization underwent several transformations, becoming Perusahaan Negara Kereta Api (PNKA) in 1963, Perusahaan Jawatan Kereta Api (PJKA) in 1971, and Perusahaan Umum Kereta Api (Perumka) in 1991. In 1999, the company transitioned into PT Kereta Api (Persero), marking its shift toward a more corporate structure. Today, KAI operates as a modern railway company, continuously improving its services and infrastructure to meet the growing demands of transportation in Indonesia.
KAI provides a wide range of railway services, including passenger transportation, freight logistics, and asset management. The company operates various types of trains, catering to different passenger needs. Intercity trains connect major cities across Java and Sumatra, offering economy, business, and executive class services. Popular routes include Jakarta-Surabaya, Jakarta-Yogyakarta, and Bandung-Semarang. Additionally, KAI Commuter serves urban areas, particularly in Greater Jakarta, providing efficient and affordable transportation for daily commuters. The company also operates airport rail services, such as Railink, which connects city centers to major airports, enhancing accessibility for travelers. Freight services play a vital role in transporting goods across Indonesia, supporting industries such as agriculture, mining, and manufacturing. Tourism trains are also available, offering scenic journeys, including luxury trains and heritage routes, allowing passengers to experience Indonesia’s landscapes in comfort.
KAI manages an extensive railway network, with thousands of kilometers of track spanning Java, Sumatra, and parts of Sulawesi. The company continuously invests in infrastructure improvements, including electrification projects, high-speed rail development, and station upgrades. One of its most ambitious projects is the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, which aims to reduce travel time between the two cities significantly.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is committed to sustainable transportation by promoting eco-friendly railway solutions. Electrification of railway lines, energy-efficient train operations, and waste management initiatives are part of its sustainability efforts. Additionally, KAI embraces digital transformation, offering online ticket booking, real-time train tracking, and modernized customer service platforms.
