BPJS Kesehatan Jobs: Member of Non-Supervisory Committee

BPJS Kesehatan LogoBPJS Kesehatan, officially known as Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial Kesehatan, is Indonesia’s national health insurance agency. It was established on January 1, 2014, evolving from PT Askes (Persero) into a public agency responsible for managing the country's health insurance system under the Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (JKN) program. The primary mission of BPJS Kesehatan is to ensure universal healthcare coverage for all Indonesian citizens by providing accessible and affordable medical services.
The agency operates under Law No. 24 of 2011, which mandates that every Indonesian citizen and foreign worker residing in Indonesia for at least six months must be enrolled in the JKN program. This law reflects the Indonesian government's commitment to improving the quality of healthcare and protecting citizens from financial hardship due to medical expenses. The program is structured so that participants pay monthly premiums based on their income, while the government subsidizes premiums for lower-income groups to ensure equal access to healthcare.
BPJS Kesehatan offers a wide range of healthcare benefits, including outpatient and inpatient care, preventive services such as vaccinations and maternal health programs, emergency treatment, surgical procedures, medication, and rehabilitation services. Participants are divided into three classes, each with different premium rates and hospital accommodations. First-class participants pay the highest premium and receive better hospital facilities, while third-class participants pay the lowest premium and are entitled to basic hospital services.
Despite its noble objectives, BPJS Kesehatan has faced significant challenges. One of the main issues is the financial deficit, caused by a mismatch between contributions and claims. In 2016, the program recorded a deficit of over six trillion IDR, which grew to 32 trillion IDR within three years. In response, the government increased premium rates by 80 to 100 percent, which led to concerns about affordability among lower-income citizens. Another challenge is hospital overcrowding, as many public hospitals struggle to accommodate the high number of BPJS Kesehatan patients. Some hospitals have also reported delays in reimbursement, which affects the quality of care provided.
To address these issues, BPJS Kesehatan has implemented several reforms, including digitizing healthcare access, which allows participants to register, check their insurance status, and schedule appointments online. The agency has also expanded partnerships with private hospitals to increase accessibility and introduced telemedicine services, enabling remote medical consultations to reduce hospital congestion and improve efficiency.
Despite these challenges, BPJS Kesehatan remains a cornerstone of Indonesia's healthcare system, striving to provide sustainable and equitable access to medical services. As the program continues to evolve, further reforms and technological advancements will be essential in ensuring its long-term success and effectiveness in delivering quality healthcare to the nation's population.
Let’s Contribute to the Nation Together with BPJS Kesehatan. Do you have experience in supervision, auditing, or institutional governance? This is the time for your expertise to make an impact on millions of Indonesians.
